2025 Park Priorities Presentation from the 9/16 Study Session
Overview
The Parks, Open Space, Recreation and Trails (P.O.R.T.) advisory committee is made up of seven members, appointed by the Board of Trustees. They advise and provide recommendations to the Town staff regarding developing and utilizing parks and recreation amenities. This includes providing input on areas to be preserved as open space, establishing bikeways and trail systems, identifying new areas for parks, completing and updating the parks master plan, current park upgrades, and suggesting options for park and open space utilization.
The current Board Liaison and one Staff Representative, are as follows:

Berthoud Parks Master Plans
The master plan process created conceptual plans for Berthoud Town Park, Waggener Farm Park, Richardson Park, and Knievel Park. Plans for the parks examined the different recreational amenities located at each, including incorporating a recreation center on one site that houses future aquatics facilities, community event spaces, and facilities for youth sports activities.

2021 Open Space Master Plan
This Open Space Plan serves as the Town’s policy foundation to expand support for open space priorities and clarify the Town’s role and strategic actions. This Open Space Plan is closely aligned with the Comprehensive Plan to shape the physical form, health, and quality of life of the Town. /documentcenter/view/4115/parks-master-plans

2022 Trails Master Plan
The intention of the Berthoud Unified Trails Master Plan is to create trail connectivity throughout the Town of Berthoud. This trail system will also create connectivity of the town trail system with adjacent regional trails including the Colorado Front Range Trail (CFRT), BNSF Fort Collins/Berthoud Trail Corridor, Big Thompson River Trail, Little Thompson River Trail, Carter Lake / Horsetooth Corridor, and the U.S. 34 Non-Motorized Corridor.

Berthoud Reservoir Master Plan
Establishing the Berthoud Reservoir Recreation Master Plan is the first step towards transforming the reservoir into a designated open space for the community, residents, and visitors. The Preferred Concept includes passive recreational amenities and improves the vegetation by restoring the native seed areas and through additional shrub and tree planting.

Berthoud Arboretum
Located at the southwest corner of Waggener Farm Park, the proposed Berthoud Arboretum will encompass 25 acres and include multiple walking paths, a water feature, a community hub, and space to reflect.

Outdoor Pool at the Berthoud Recreation Center
Located on the south side of the Berthoud Recreation Center, the conceptual outdoor pool design includes a zero-entry children’s pool and a second larger recreation pool, which includes lap lanes and a diving board.

Richardson Park (Mountain Vista Park)
Located north of Loveland Lake just west of Berthoud Parkway, this regional park will include up to six baseball/softball fields, a community event lawn, a destination playground, and a large community pool with slides, a lazy river, a play structure, and a resort-style pool.

Berthoud Golf Club
Located on the west side of HWY 287 just south of CR10e, this concept was presented to the Town Board on September 9, 2025. The Board of Trustees has not yet formally approved this project.
