Backflow Prevention and Cross-Connection Control Program (BPCCCP)

Program Overview:

Backflow occurs when water flows in the reverse direction, potentially allowing contaminants from private plumbing systems to enter the public water supply. To safeguard our community, Berthoud Water Utilities’ BPCCCP follows all applicable state and local regulations to ensure the safety and quality of Berthoud’s drinking water.  The program is dedicated to preventing backflow incidents and protecting the health of all Berthoud residents by maintaining reliable access to clean, safe water, and complies with the following:

Requirements for Verification and Installation

Applies to commercial, multi-family, industrial, irrigation, common area, other non-residential and fire line service connections:

  • CDPHE Verification Survey: Complete and submit the CDPHE Water Use survey to identify possible cross-connections or hazards.
  • Backflow Assembly Installation: Install an approved, testable assembly where required.

Requirements for Annual Testing

  • Responsibility of the property owner, manager and or occupant of the property
  • Test assemblies at installation, replacement, and annually thereafter.
  • Only a certified BAT may perform testing and submission of test results.
  • Initial test results must be submitted to Berthoud Water Utilities for review, then uploaded by the BAT to our online portal after review.

Requirements / Additional Information

  • Berthoud Water Utilities may reject incomplete or inaccurate test reports and may restrict testing companies that submit unreliable data.
  • Aqua Backflow (our third-party data manager) handles test result submissions and tester credential verification at www.trackmybackflow.com.
